Designed in 1958 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Babela by Tacchini is a seating design that expresses the experimental spirit of Italian design through an essential and rigorous language. Born from a design research process in which function guides every formal choice, it stands out for its compact structure, straight sides and stackable design, features that reflect its original practical purpose. The re-edition by Tacchini reinterprets the historic design for contemporary interiors, replacing the original iron structure with a solid stained ash wood base. The wood introduces a warmer material quality, combining with the understated geometry of the upholstered seat, available in fabric or leather. Babela thus preserves the Castiglioni brothers’ original vision, turning functionality into a defining feature of the design and confirming the ability of designer furniture to stand the test of time while retaining its contemporary relevance.
