Africa by Tacchini, designed by Tobia Scarpa, is a chair that celebrates traditional cabinetmaking through a formal exploration in which wood takes centre stage. The contemporary re-edition of the design highlights the richness of canaletto walnut and the precision of artisanal craftsmanship, creating a sculptural structure with essential proportions. The backrest, crafted as a single element and subsequently finished in two symmetrical parts, reveals the wood’s distinctive grain through delicate hand-finishing techniques, creating natural shades and colour contrasts. The distinctive opening between the backrest and the rear legs lends lightness to the structure and flexibility to the seat, defining a profile with an almost totemic character. Africa thus reflects Tobia Scarpa’s design sensibility, bringing together construction expertise, material research and attention to detail in a piece of Italian design furniture that stands the test of time.
