A nineteenth–century residence rediscovers its identity through a project that brings together architectural heritage, natural materials and contemporary sensibility

Some homes hold a story within their walls, while certain projects give them new possibilities. Dating back to the early nineteenth century, this residence is rooted in its relationship with the surrounding landscape and follows the natural slope of the terrain, opening towards the plain through a succession of levels, views and living spaces. The renovation, designed by LTa Architects, led by architect Leonardo Togni, begins with a respect for the original architecture, preserving its distinctive features and bringing the quality of its historic forms back to the fore. It is in the interiors that the history of the house meets a new interpretation of contemporary living. Zenucchi Design Code curated the interior design project, guiding the selection of forms, materials and finishes to create a composition that enhances the identity of each space while embracing a contemporary sensibility.

To inhabit time means recognising what deserves to endure and shaping new ways of living

In the living area, a dark corner sofa is paired with a rug in shades of rust and burgundy, while whitewashed wooden beams and herringbone oak flooring create a warm, luminous atmosphere. The cantilevered staircase, with stone treads and a black metal railing, introduces a clean, essential feature that reinforces the continuity between spaces. The dining area expresses the residence’s eclectic character through carefully considered combinations. A round table in dark veined marble, geometrically designed chairs and an antique painting in a gilded frame coexist with a brass and black metal chandelier with a Mid-Century feel. Elements from different eras and design languages come together naturally, creating an interior rich in personality. In the kitchen, the central island in burnished metal becomes the focal point of the composition, incorporating both the sink and induction hob. Full-height cabinetry in matt grey maintains a discreet, rigorous presence, while sheer curtains filter the light and lend the space a sense of lightness. The master bedroom follows the same pursuit of understated refinement. Neutral tones, light-coloured beams and mirrored surfaces enhance the natural light, while a sculptural wooden seat introduces a tactile accent. Stone, wood, marble, metal and textiles come together in a narrative shaped by contrasts and continuity. Rather than erasing traces of the past, the project embraces them within a contemporary vision, in which every choice helps preserve the character of the house while renewing the experience of everyday living.
