From 6 to 23 September, the eighth edition of I Maestri del Paesaggio-International Meeting of the Landscape and Garden (www.imaestridelpaesaggio.it), organised by Arketipos and the Municipality of Bergamo, will take place in Bergamo Alta: a prestigious event, an international appointment to immerse yourself in the culture of landscape in sixteen days of cultural buzz.
Plant Landscape is the focus of this edition: a return from the generic to the details, starting again from the kaleidoscopic vocabulary that forms Landscape; that is, from the original “words” underlying nature and of any landscape “narrative”: plants.
For the eighth edition of Green Square, Piazza Vecchia is transformed into an amazing garden. The star is Piet Oudolf, who is internationally called the master of plant design and is the leading figure of a new movement, the New Perennial, that favours the use of flowers and perennial grasses in gardening.
For the third year running, this edition’s partners include Zenucchi Design Code in collaboration with Kettal and its Outdoor collection to furnish the portico of the Angelo Maj Library, accompanied by Atelier Vierkant’s entirely handmade vases.
The project was inspired by the theme of the Masters of Landscape event: PLANT LANDSCAPE, a return from the generic to the details, starting again from the original ‘words’ underlying nature and any landscape ‘”narrative”: plants and flowers. Thanks to the precious collaboration with Kettal, the Library’s portico was designed as outdoor settings with designer furniture by international architects such as Patricia Urquiola and Rodolfo Dordoni. The location overlooks Piazza Vecchia, transformed for the occasion into an amazing garden with various species of early autumnal plants and flowers. Bearing in mind this panorama, our installation could not fail to have a link to the concept adopted by Piet Oudolf. The tall plants that invaded the library’s porch last year make way this year for grasses and early autumnal flowers, again planted in Atelier Vierkant’s vases: a touch of colour provided by nature itself. Instead, the shrubs are placed at height: the greenery hangs from the sky thanks to suspended circular mirror structures that accommodate different types of plants. The layout therefore stems from the original “words” that underpin the entire narrative of the event this year: plants and flowers are the stars of the Portico and the furniture helps to create an environment in which these “words” can be expressed. It is precisely for this reason that soft, neutral colours were chosen for the Kettal furniture, which pick up on the tones of the sky and the lawn, to create a backdrop in which colour manifests itself through the flowers: a single lively nuance that brings the Angelo Maj Library to life.
