Platner Collection – Tavolino

Platner Side Table is the side table designed by Warren Platner for Knoll in 1966, part of a collection that has become an icon of modern design thanks to its ability to combine structure and ornament in a single form. The project stems from the desire to reinterpret the modernist language through softer lines and a more decorative presence, transforming a metal structure into an element with a strong sculptural identity. The base is composed of hundreds of slender steel rods, curved and welded to circular frames, a complex construction solution in which each element contributes simultaneously to the structural function and to the visual definition of the table. The circular geometry and visual lightness of the structure create an almost suspended effect, while the tabletop introduces a material counterpoint that completes the composition. Platner Side Table thus represents a refined synthesis of construction precision, formal research and decorative sensibility, preserving the expressive strength of the original design decades later. A design side table conceived for contemporary interiors, capable of naturally complementing an armchair or serving as an accent element within the space.
