Among the cult objects of Vitra’s production there are also these beautiful matchboxes decorated with graphics by Alexander Girard. Together with George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, Girard was one of the protagonists of post-war American design. Dedicated to textile design, graphic arts and furniture design, with his playful language brought an unprecedented freshness in the austerity of modernism. In 1993 many of his objects became part of the Vitra Design Museum. Alexander Girard’s matchboxes are simple but very representative objects of his character and could be an original idea to make a gift to friends who are passionate about design.
